Paddle Boarding at Widuri Lake

[ad_1]

Heyho Everybody! Hope April has been good to everyone. Also Happy Fasting to those fasting this Ramadhan! We have been busy these past few weeks. Amidst all the chaos that is work, deadlines, and over-the-top Iftar menus, we decided to go paddle-boarding at Widuri Lake with our close friends!

Widuri Lake is a natural breathtaking lake located about 58km from central Kuala Lumpur in Bukit Beruntung, Selangor.

A drive there takes around 45-60mins via the North-South Highway. It is surrounded by trees and small hills which are part of the Titiwangsa Range. Fishing and water activities are among the popular activities here.

We booked our Paddle Boarding activity for 3pm on a Saturday with Nomad Adventures. The place was quiet and peaceful when we arrived as it was also the month of Ramadhan (blessed!).

SUP or Stand-Up Paddle Boarding is a straight-forward, fun water activity suitable for everyone over the age of 12. Being able to swim isn’t a prerequisite, but being confident in the water certainly helps!

We went prepared to get wet (and slightly burnt!). Things we brought with us include sunblock, a hat, insect-repellent, a change of clothes, a towel, sunglasses, slippers, water-safe bag and of course- our phones/camera! If you’re wearing glasses, it’s useful to have a safety band to keep it on the head!

All of us were given a short briefing on safety and basic techniques before entering the water. As we were putting on our life jackets, anxiety slowly creeped in. Lakes can be notorious.

Trying to scare each other with a picture of a snakehead fish kind of backfired.

Our guide, Roy, demonstrated how to stand on the board. It seemed easy until each of us were actually ON the board 🙂 Standing up required some gusto, focus and balancing skills. Then it was learning to maneuver the board while balancing oneself.

As soon as we got over the fear of falling into the water, meeting the snakehead and making a fool out of ourselves, it became easier. Soon enough we were paddling around the lake, occasionally crashing into one another.

It was surprisingly calming, surrounded by greenery with the wind blowing.

After about an hour of paddling, we parked at one shady area of the lake for photos. Slowly our goals evolved. Hana’s goal was to do a board wheelie while Nat wanted to do a burpee on the board. Naturally, it all ended with us being in the water.

After almost 3 hours of chaos and splashes, we started feeling a little spent. All the shouting, laughing, and paddling certainly used up a lot of energy. It surprised us how much of a whole-body exercise it was. We slowly paddled our way back to our starting point to change and rest. We had the best Iftar.

So this was our first-time paddle boarding. Did we have fun? Totally. Will we do it again? Most definitely! We’re looking for our next adventure! Let us know, what shall we try next?
